With flat tops and on straight 93 octane it went a best of 7.29 at 92mph in the 1/8th. It ran consistent 7.30's. This was in a 3500lb+ G-body wagon with a 4.30 gear.

For a Blue Print 383 engine Summit recommended the BPP400L dampener. When it arrived I see that it has no permanent TDC inscribed. The TDC mark is lightly painted on. The main finish on the dampener is extremely thin as well and shipping motion in the box has worn the finish down to bare metal which is going to rust.The 383 does have a ton of tq, and doesn't need to rev to hit good HP numbers. I believe that since you don't plan on driving this a lot, that you should consider the 454. More money without question, but you get what you pay for. The bigger cubes would last longer at the 500hp mark but you can get it out of the 383--just a little more radical. The 383 will have to make 1.3 hp per cube and the 427 will have to make only 1.17 hp per cube. As for cost, you have most of the 500hp 383 already.400 + .030 Over Bore w/ 4.00" stroke crank = 434ci. 400 + .060 Over Bore w/ 4.00" stroke crank = 440ci. As you can see, the 427 would be your cheaper alternative but finding a used block that don't need bored is almost impossible. The 440ci is a bit much for street because of the bore size, cooling may be a problem.

The idle air bleed may need to be changed. A low speed stumble may mean the IFR is too small to feed the transfer slot with the mods to your engine. A stumble when floored from idle could mean the booster channels need to be opened up. The emulsion holes pattern may need to be modified. Accelerator pumps may need work.

Here's what can be done: 475 to 500 HP on pump gas using factory block, crank, rods and heads for around $2,000.00. You're going to buy pistons, cam, bearings, etc and have some machine work done anyway right. The standard rebuild stuff should be all you need. Of course we won't include a carb, distributor, headers, etc.

But it's harder to make that power because the bore/stroke relationship is more "truck-like." The engine would run better with 6.00/6.20 gears in the 1/8mi. i would say that a 388"er might run 1 tenth better with this much weight, however a 406" junkyard motor, with brodix heads and 6.20 gears i ran 6.26 in the same car. I run an electric shift PG with a 5500 stall and pro brake, but the 406"er broke a rod bolt, so in went the 377" motor.396/402, BB's have much better breathing heads. Jun 18, 2016 · Just based upon your initial post you've stated you have a 350 that runs perfectly fine. There's a 400 out there that you may not know a lot about until you bust it down. A 383 option has been thrown out there and you say you are on a TIGHT budget. That being said, I'd stick with the 350.
