Jun 4, 2019 · Two methods of float adjustment are provided for with Holley performance carburetors depending on the style of float bowl and needle and seat assembly employed. They are the internal (dry) setting and the external (wet) setting.
If adjustment is required use a large screw driver to crack loose the lock screw. With a 5/8" open-end wrench turn the adjusting nut clockwise to lower the float level. Conversely, turn the adjusting nut counter-clockwise to raise the float level. Tighten the lock screw. Restart the vehicle and let the engine idle stabilize. The 4000 doesn't like too much fuel pressure. Recommended pressure is 4.5 psi, so no electric pumps. As there is a vendor out there selling fuel pump kits with incorrect return springs, not a bad idea to check the pressure. Idle mixture control screws should be out from lightly seated 1/4 to 1 turn.Connect a vacuum gauge to a carburetor vacuum port that will have access to full manifold vacuum at idle. Start the engine and allow it to warm up. Once the engine has warmed up and the idle stabilized, the choke should be disen-gaged.
