The Xanathar's Rangers like Horizon Walker isnt too bad itself, with its force damage bonus action conversion for one of your attacks. Your key feature, however, is the 11th level Distant Strikes which lets you teleport between attacks when you take the Attack action, and strike a 3rd foe if you targeted 2 different ones with your Extra Attack.
I would say take the first 5 levels ranger. Then take either two levels of druid or three of rogue. Scout and assassin would work well for your concept. I would say wield a longsword and shield, or a greatsword/axe as the horizon walker is about one powerful attack. If you weren't being melee, you could take a longbow and focus on that.Unless this is a lvl 20 build, I wouldn't go beyond 3-4 levels in fighter, since it's not much and you need a lot of time in horizon walker to actually get the cool teleporting/space magic stuff. Horizon Walker more than any other Ranger is what makes me lament the loss of Shield on Forge Cleric; it'd have been an excellent boon to this build. Any type of Wizard would give you access to stuff like Shield and Find Familiar, as well as Arcane Recovery to stretch out your low level spell slot stamina throughout an adventuring day.

Horizon Walker doesn't synergize with Monk well, because it's about making a single powerful attack and Monk is about stacking lots of small attacks, it would be great for Rogue. Remember you can only benefit from 1 "Extra Attack" so you only ever want to take 1 class to lvl 5 or that will be a dead level the 2nd time you take it.
After level 11, multiclassing isn't required but starts looking appealing as we've hit our peak in Ranger. A level of Cleric can give you a variety of benefits depending on domain. Lifeberry, Emboldening Bond, +1 AC or +1 weapon, etc. 2 levels of Fighter nabs Defense Fighting Style and Action Surge, take a 3rd and you can grab a subclass. The Horizon Walker is a close-range class, so melee is probably better damage-wise. Sword and board is the way to go IMO with dueling as it is the best mix of defense and offense.
