Garrosh was in control of whatever the Heart of Y'shaarj did for him, and his Horde focused on controlling the elements and other sources of power rather than dealing in "contracts" (shaman and warlocks) or worshipping (druids/priests) or being pawns like the Old Horde. I suspect you'll catch a lot of negative attention for this post, but I think several of your points have truth to them. I think night elves have been handled horribly by Blizzard, but that's a different discussion than their military strength and feasibility of them remaining independent.

I assume these long-lived races take a very long time to grow up. I thought I read somewhere that a night elf took over 300 years to reach maturity whereas in the humans it takes only 16 to 18 years. From a practical design perspective; This zone is now designed as a specific instance for Warfronts, and Warfronts are designed to function like a Warcraft RTS map. Therefore, you need trees to harvest, just like in the old RTS games. Slowly slowly WoW enters 2018, looking good while still holding onto that Warcraft feeling.
