These journeys trigger when you pick up the required item into your inventory.. However, they will not trigger if you have an incomplete stack of it and the items get added to that. So you need to make sure the newly picked up items go to a new slot (since internally only that is a new item.. stacks are actually a property of an existing item ... The journey steps seem to be bugged for a lot of people and definitely some mods seem to interfere with them registering. If anyone knows of a good work around please, please post what worked for you since there really is no tried and true solution posted anywhere that I can find for many of the journey steps that won't complete.
