On the Desktop version, the Molten Fury is has the highest base damage of all bows available prior to Hardmode. Also, the type of ammo you're using adds on to the damage (and more) of the weapon you're using. If you were to flip the bow over you'd have an identical bat face, it's just a decorative design.
