It only howls upon acceleration. but if you let the gas pedal slightly off while ur accelerating it goes away then apply some gas it gone. from 0-20 to 30 mph. I do not hear the sound at idle. I have listened with my mechanics stethoscope and I can hear the ticking coming from the valve cover over cylinders 1-3.It could be a bad fuel to air ratio, something as easy as cleaning out the MAF and O2 sensors could fix this. Or, it could be something bigger like worn out engine mounts. My car was vibrating pretty bad, same situation as yours, it was happening during acceleration and idling. Car was stalling out frequently as well.

Noticed the same grinding noise under the hood between 2000 and 3000 RPM last week, so I took it in to the Honda dealer today. They had to replace the belt tensioner (under warranty). Now it sounds normal and the problem appears to be solved. An Acura MDX owner posted the same problem/solution in their web thread. P.S.
