You took the mag apart the old fashioned way with a toothpick thru one of the witness holes. Don't dial 911 - carry a 1911.remanaz. To remove the thumb safety from the gun either use your thumb/fingers to pull the hammer back to the cocked position or rack the slide for the same result. Then push the thumb safety up to roughly the middle of between engaged and off.
