"The owner said it always ran great but started smoking so had the top end rebuilt by a local mechanic.Get rid of the Dyna kit and put all stock parts back in. alright, so ive got a 1999 Kawasaki Prairie 400 4x4. I bought the quad about a week ago, everything worked great other than the fact it had no rear brakes. I went to go out and play in the mud a bit this weekend, and fell thru some ice into a swamp, just over the bottom of the running boards, the quad continued running and never died.

If you look at the module with the terminals pointing down, the two on the left go to the pickup coil (black and blue on my '86).

It's probably the spring loaded gear selector fork under the shifter assy behind the rear head. it's VERY easy for one side of that spring mechanism to fall off when assembling. this way you don't get a full throw when putting it in gear with the hand shifter.
